Casket Entombment

Entombment of human remains is a tradition that can be traced back to the 4th century B.C.  The term mausoleum derives from the monument that the Greek Queen Artemis constructed for her husband Mausolus, King of Caria.   The pyramids of Egypt and the catacombs of Rome are other examples that can be classified as entombment.

PhotoMAUSOLEUM BENEFITS:  The selection of mausoleum entombment is a unique way to memorialize the death of a family member.  Once the preserve of royalty, aristocracy and industrialists, mausoleum selection is now available for all members of society.  The key advantages of mausoleum entombment over earth burial are:

PROTECTION:  Each crypt is dry, sealed and individually vented affording a high level of protection for the remains of the deceased and the casket they are entombed in.

SECURITY:  in addition to regular security patrols the indoor crypts at the mausoleum have the added security of a 24 video monitor and full alarm system activated at closing.

COMFORT:  Visitors to the mausoleum enjoy year round protection from inclement weather.  Outdoor crypts are protected by a vaulted extension of the building roof.  Indoor crypts can be visited in comfort year round.  Convenient benches, feature statuary and background music create a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. The mausoleum is open every day of the year for visiting.

Mausoleum entombment is a very unique and highly specialized form of honouring and remembering a life lived.

Bronze name bars and plaques, perpetual vigil lights, religious and fraternal emblems and cameo photos installed on crypt shutters create personalized memorials for each entombment.

The Royal Oak Mausoleum has many choices of crypt types and locations.  Crypts are available in single, companion or family configurations.  The Garden Crypts, featuring granite crypt fronts, are on the exterior of the building.   The Cloister Crypts, with marble crypt fronts, are indoors in a climate controlled, secure setting that is awash in natural light.

Entombment vs. In-Ground Burial

A common misconception is that mausoleum entombment is significantly more costly than in-ground burial.
